We have done a Riesling tasting before and everyone loved it.  Mostly because their expectations were blown out of the water.  Some thought they would be just like a Riesling from the US, while others were die-hard German fans, and knew exactly what to expect.  For this round I have chosen four Rieslings, three from the 2008 vintage and one from the 2010 vintage.  Two are estate while the others are not.  All four are a Kabinett though.  Price-wise...$25 or less.

Before you tell yourself you don't like Riesling, just come in and try them.  Most people will avoid German Rieslings because they say they don't like Rieslings as they are too sweet.  These wines are not sweet like something you might have in the US.  They are mineral sweet with great balance and acidity.  Taste before you buy and open your eyes to something refreshing and new.

Here is what we have for your palates:

2008 Von Hovel Estate Riesling, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
Notes:  Always an excellent value, and this year is no exception. The wine has pear aromas, followed by a round mouth with good acidity to support the raspberry flavors, and pineapple on the finish. Great to enjoy on its own, but also great with salads and spicy dishes including fusion cuisine.

2010 Reichsrat von Buhl "Armand" Riesling Kabinett, Pfalz
Notes:   Fresh, with good cut to the green apple, grapefruit and white cherry flavors. Shows hints of black currant and plenty of spice on the peppery finish.  1,000 cases imported.

2008 Dr. Hermann Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
Notes:   Light yellow green color, scent of spices and stone fruits with some notes of red berries. Palate: It is bright and fresh with some residual sugar. Fine acidity with some delicate honey notes and a long spicy finish.

2008 Dr. F. Weins-Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
Notes:    This lovely wine's pear, apple blossom and white peach aromatics continue onto the palate. Red fruits add an interesting counterpoint and the wine's fantastically creamy texture is fine and focused. Very young, there are hints of exotic notes that are sure to be revealed with time.

As always, we will finish the tasting with a little tawny port. This is just how we roll. Come in and enjoy!

*******We will also be having the first and only RS (residual sugar) sale in the greater Seattle area****  All RS wines are 10% to 15% off.

Cheers,

Santo
