Bedell Cellars, an historic sustainably-farmed estate winery on the North Fork of Long Island owned by Michael Lynne, announces a series of harvest vineyard walks hosted by Bedell’s CEO Trent Preszler, Ph.D. The Vineyard Walks complement the ongoing series of Barrel Tastings hosted by Bedell’s 30-year veteran Winemaker Richard Olsen-Harbich.
On the Vineyard Walks, guests will learn first-hand how fine wine grapes are grown, and the tour includes the vineyards and gardens at Bedell Cellars in addition to a field of native pollinator grasses and flowers, honeybee apiary, grape pomace composting, and Audubon Bluebird Trail.
“This offers an inside look at Bedell’s working farm, which is in-process to be certified sustainable for the 2012 vintage by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing,” said Dr. Preszler, who is Chairman of the WineAmerica Sustainability Committee and holds a Ph.D. in Viticulture from Cornell University, the first such degree holder in the Long Island wine industry. “I want to highlight the eco-friendly grape growing practices that Bedell’s Vineyard Manager, Dave Thompson, has pioneered over the past 30 years.”
The Bedell Cellars Vineyard Walks cost $50 per person and include a tasting of Bedell wines paired with locally made cheese. Tours will take place from Noon to 1:30PM on the fourth Saturday of every month during the harvest season: August 25; September 22; and October 27. Reservations are required and can be secured by calling Bedell Cellars at (631) 734-7537 or emailing trent@bedellcellars.com.
