About Wine Around the Square 2012
Event: Wine Around the Square (WATS) is a brand new event for Murfreesboro, Rutherford County and points beyond. This inaugural event promises to be a casual, fun, “hip” evening for all ages inside retail and professional venues around the historic downtown Square in Murfreesboro. The evening features an art show at Pinnacle Financial Partners, which is the beginning of a “progressive” wine tasting that will last throughout the evening. The event will proceed rain or shine.
Date: Friday, September 21, 6 p.m.
Venue: Downtown Murfreesboro, inside retail and professional spaces around the Public Square
Pinnacle Financial Partners (PFP) downstairs lobby of original building at 114 West College Street is the check-in point, beginning of the evening, first wine tasting and will house the art show.
Entry and Start: Guests check-in with ticket purchased ahead of time, online, for $75. If any tickets remain the day of the event, they will be $85 at the door.
Guests purchase a lanyard for $5; pick up WATS etched signature wine glass (included in price) and instructions for the evening. PFP is first wine-tasting location; appetizers passed; view local artwork for sale. 30% of all art show sales will benefit the Power of Pink.
Art Show: Art offerings are organized by local artist Caryl Witt. Approximately 8-10 regional artists will participate in the sale and donate 30 percent of their proceeds to the 2012 Power of Pink. Buyers will write their checks to the MTMC Foundation, and MTMC will reimburse the artists. The art show will be available all evening for “come and go” viewing, until 9 pm.
Venture out: Throughout the evening, guests will visit each retail/professional space and taste a different wine; wine tastings will occur in approximately 20 designated retail shops and attorneys’ offices located throughout the central portion of the square. Live music will be playing at three/four venues throughout the evening.
Volunteers: will be in each WATS space, helping describe and pour wine and offering a water rinse of the wine glasses as visitors leave each space.
Safe Ride Home: Event organizers will alert local cab companies that will have cabs available in a central location for those guests who prefer to take a cab home at the end of the evening.
Very good cause! The proceeds of the 2012 Power of Pink will pay for local, indigent women's mammograms and breast cancer care, will go toward "Our Mission in Motion" mobile mammography coach operated by St. Thomas Health, Susan G. Komen and MTMC Power of Pink, and will provide for a portion of a nurse navigator’s salary. The nurse navigator is the person who guides those diagnosed with breast cancer through their "next steps."
In FY 2012, $46,855 was used for these patients’ mammograms and breast cancer care, helping 330 women. The "Our Mission in Motion" coach visited Rutherford County 11 times and performed 154 mammograms, 40% of which were charity care. All of the funds raised at WATS will stay in Rutherford County and provide care for Rutherford County women.
