The chef's 5-course tasting menu with paired wines is held every Saturday.  The menu selections and wine flights change every week.  Here are the details for this week.

Please join us (21 and up only, please!) anytime from 5:00 on for a chef's 5-course tasting menu.  Cost is a mere thirty bucks for all five courses.  We've also put together a wine flight that pairs each course with a different wine.  Cost for the flight is only twenty bucks for five wines, or if you'd prefer not to do the flight, we'll also have wines available by the glass or bottle, as well as beer and cocktails.  The kitchen will be open until at least 9:00.  Here's the line-up.  Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested.

LOCATION & PHONE
Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upstairs terrace.  Follow the black handrail up the stairs from the sidewalk to our front door.  Our phone number is (619) 295-3939.

PARKING ~ FREE & PAID
On-street parking is usually available within a 3-block radius.  Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones after 6:00 and that meters are also free after 6:00.  You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed!  If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street.  So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!

WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES
2009 Halter Ranch White Rhône Blend ~ $12
(Paso Robles) Winemaker's Notes: Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier + Sauvignon Blanc.  Displays a luminous lemon hue and clean, youthful aromas of pear drop, peach, sweet grass, baking spices, oro blanco grapefruit, citrus blossom and toast.  Balanced, creamy palate of ripe peach, honeysuckle, grapefruit, candied citrus peel, honey and pineapple flavors with a crisp, lingering finish.  Delicious now with heavy-fleshed white fish and cream-sauced chicken and pasta dishes, it will develop more aromatic complexity and an even richer mouthfeel with 2-3 years of additional aging.

2005 Garmendia Tempranillo ~ $15
(Spain) 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano + 5% Grenache.  Brooding, intense nose of very ripe, sweet black cherry and blackberry liqueur with background aromas of sweet smoke and pencil lead.  Equally intense, rich, extracted attack of more ripe black fruits balanced with an earthy, warm strawberry acidity in the evolution and with sweet, subtly smoky, vanilla tannins in the very long, viscous finish.  An amazing value.

2010 Cazar "Sonoma Coast" Pinot Noir ~ $20
(Sonoma Coast) Classic Pinot nose of earthy black cherry, warm strawberry and sweet damp earth.  Slightly spicy attack of rich, earthy yet fruity and spicy black cherry and strawberry flavors nicely balanced with a faintly peppery, subtly spicy berry acidity in the evolution and with soft tannins in the long finish.

2001 Cavas Valmar Cabernet Sauvignon ~ $30
(Mexico) Winemaker’s Notes: Red pomegranate color with a brick edge.  A bit tight initially but soon reveals clean flavors on the attack of ripe black cherry, red fruit and berries balanced with leather and earthy oak flavors in the full bodied evolution. Smooth, round, velvety fat finish very well-balanced with soft tannins.

2008 La Mision "May Harvest" Sauvignon Blanc ~ $14
(Chile) Floral nose of orange blossom, spicy honey and candied apricot with faint background aromas of earthy minerals.  Rich, unctuous yet juicy attack of dried peach and apricot flavors nicely balanced with a spicy honey acidity in the evolution and long finish.  Great with dark chocolate desserts.
