More about our special guest from Montes:
Ginevra Altomara fell in love with wine at a young age; her father’s homemade pasta and trips to Italy as a child introduced her to the love of cooking and wine was an integral part of her family’s daily life growing up. After studying ballet and opera and attending New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, Ms Altomara found herself across the street from Lincoln Center, at Café Fiorello. She quickly fell in love with the bustle of the restaurant and discussing wine with her guests. Certified as an Advanced Sommelier by ASA in 2001, Ms Altomara became the youngest female wine director at the time in NYC, at the age of 23. Ginevra was lucky to have worked for some of the top restaurateurs in New York City; including Danny Meyer, Steve Hanson, Richard Sandoval, Terrance Brennan and Main Street Restaurant Partners, winning WS awards in all restaurants. She worked as the opening Wine and Beverage Director for Django (from the team that opened Union Pacific, Rocco DiSpirito’s first NY restaurant) and garnered much press for innovative wine and drink lists as well as Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Ms Altomara also built the Wine and Education program for a new fast growing high end Mexican group (Modern Mexican restaurants) developed by renowned Mexican Chef Richard Sandoval, and worked as corporate beverage director through all of his restaurants in the country – which included opening La Isla in Las Vegas hotel Treasure Island, as well as Pampano in NYC co-owned by renowned tenor Placido Domingo. Ginevra has worked for the Marnier-Lapostolle family as their National Director of Education and Trade Development since 2006 and has completed five harvests at the Lapostolle Winery in Chile. In 2010, she was asked to develop the curriculum and lecture for American Sommelier Associations Certified Sommelier Program, South American section. As of May 2011, Ginevra took the position of Brand Manager for Montes USA. She resides in San Francisco, California.
