Come learn about both the familiar and undiscovered joys of that well-known but often misunderstood Italian elixir, Grappa

We’ll guide you through the history, geography, and production of grappa and illustrate the presentation with a tasting of 6 world-class examples from some of Italy’s leading producers. The class will feature grappas based on Amarone, Brunello, Prosecco and a few surprises as well.

You’ll come away with a new appreciation of this traditional but very modern wine-based spirit. Plus, in-store discounts on grappas for those attending the class!

Grappa is a unique spirit because it is derived from a solid, raw material: 'vinaccia,' the Italian term for pomace, or the skins and seeds left from table wine production. Vinaccia as a substance is solid, spongy and very delicate.

Products being presented:

Altesino Grappa di Brunello
Jacopo Poli Miele di Poli
Jacopo Poli Traminer di Poli
Nardini Acquavite di Vinaccia Riserva
Zardetto Grappa di Pino
Zenato Grappa di Amarone

Our presenter, Richard Long began his career in 1983, working room service at the Omni Berkshire Hotel. He continued his career as a bartender at notable NYC cocktail lounges and restaurants working with Jeffrey Chodorow and Jeffrey Zakarian. In 2001, Richard joined the Jim Beam Extreme Team representing small batch bourbons in Brooklyn. He then joined Eber Brothers’ Spirit Team and then Atlantic Spirits and Wines working with Diageo and Moet Hennessey. Richard is now proud to be the New York State Spirits Brand Manager for Winebow Inc.

Cheeses and other edibles will be served along with the wines.
