In celebration of 100 years of Chardonnay in the United States, fifth generation winemaker Karl Wente of Wente Vineyards is hosting a Chardonnay tasting at the Ferry Plaza.
Wente Vineyards invites wine lovers to a horizontal Chardonnay tasting of Wente Vineyard Chardonnays including 2010 entwine Chardonnay, 2010 Morning Fog Chardonnay, 2010 Riva Ranch Chardonnay, 2010 Eric’s Chardonnay and 2010 Nth Degree Chardonnay.
2012 marks the 100th anniversary of Chardonnay in the United States. Ernest Wente,
of Wente Family Esates, brought cuttings from Montpelier, France in 1912 and
planted them in California. Today the majority of Chardonnay plantings can be
traced back to the Wente clone planted 100 years ago. The event at the Ferry Plaza
Wine Merchant will showcase Karl Wente’s craftsmanship vis a vis Chardonnay,
the #1 selling grape variety in the United States.
