Inspired by the blends of Bordeaux,
Meritage wines—also called Claret and red table wine—are full-bodied
domestic red wines that utilize any combination of Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Generally, they are
more complex than Merlot and easier to drink than Cabernet Sauvignon,
but they share the grand, deep flavors of the best of them.
