Fundamentals of Wine Studies   Designed for adults who are beginning to study wine seriously and want to enhance their understanding of wine while improving their sensory awareness and abilities to evaluate and describe wines. Practical and aesthetic aspects will be discussed including: winemaking techniques and regional influences on wine style. You will learn and understand labeling terms, major wine regions, wine buying and service, and storage strategies. We will explore how to taste wine with food pairing techniques, the theory behind blind tasting and discuss classic grape varieties A range of wines will illustrate each evening's lecture topics with emphasis on currently available, premium international wines grouped by style.

Please bring four clear wine glasses to each class meeting. Enrollment is restricted to persons 21 years of age or older. Refund deadline one week prior to start date.

Edward Manetta, B.A., holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has worked in the wine industry for over 15 years and passed his Certificate of Sommelier exam in 1999. He has taught wine classes at UCI Extension since 2002, and assisted in the creation of the Specialized Studies Program in Wine. He recently passed the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust Advance Certificate with merit. Edward owns the "The Reserve Wine Bar and Shop", a combination retail wine store, wine bar and restaurant located in Ladera Ranch.
