Wild Indeed! Join us this Saturday for a FREE, informal but informative and very fun tasting at Mora's Fine Wines. That will be Saturday 25 February from 3 to 6pm in a guided tasting with spirits expert Karl duHoffman. We will visit Scotland of course where the word "Whisky" came from as well as Texas and Colorado. All 5 are uncommon spirits and our friend Karl promised to bring a few "extra credit" spirits for the stout hearted. to taste.
About Karl: Karl duHoffmann brings 20 yrs of experience in the food and beverage industry with to bear when speaking on distilled beverages. A passionate advocate for the diversity to be found amongst the great spirits of the world, Karl is a dynamic educator who challenges received wisdom and brings a fun informative presence to the classroom. Karl leads professional spirit education seminars and we are fortunate to have him for absolutely no charge except an open mind and an interest in whiskies.
About Mora's Spirits Tastings: Mora's is pushing the wine and spirit enjoyment envelop by pushing into the "spirit world" with more spirit tastings and even a recent single malt Scotch Whisky dinner! Just as we seek the new, exciting and sophisticated in wine, in our spirit tastings we look for artisinal distilled spirits both traditional and exotic new spirits from around the world.
About the Tasting: Here is the line up
Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon Whiskey Colorado 86 Proof
-High rye (40% of total mashbill!) Took one of only three Gold Medals awarded in the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Balcones Brimstone Texas Smoked Corn Whisky 106 Proof
-Smoked using Texas scrub oak rather than traditional Scottish peat. One of the leaders of the craft distiller movement.
Isle of Skye 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky 86 Proof
-a blended scotch whisky, but a really good one. age statement of 8 but large part of the blend is much older than that. Honey sweetness from Speyside components balanced by smoky/peaty island malts.
Chieftain’s Braeval 1996 14 Year Old Limited Edition 92 Proof
-textbook delicate, sweet and floral speyside from independent bottler Chietain's.
Kilchoman Spring Release 2011 Islay Single Malt Scotch 92 Proof
-young (3-4 years) islay single malt from the island's newest and arguably most exciting distillery. fresh, lively, yet complex with balanced smoke and peat.
