Event Details
Wine OR Wine & Food
Please join us (21 and up only, please) this Thursday anytime from 5:30 on for an opportunity to try three Spanish wines from the Juan Gil portfolio. We're serving a Verdejo (a delicious white wine sourced from century old vines), a Garnacha (Grenache) and a Tempranillo also sourced from century old vines. The flight of all three wines is a ridiculously low ten bucks. Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested.
In addition to the regular twenty buck 3-course prix fixe bistro menu (which includes vegetarian options), we're also featuring a 3-course roasted lamb special that should pair nicely with these wines. Here's the line-up:
Calamari en Escabeche | Charred Apricot | Almonds | Basil
(to pair with the Verdejo)
Roasted Lamb Shoulder | Eggplant Confit | Smoked Yogurt | Wood Grilled Heirloom Leeks
(to pair with the two reds)
Brown Butter "Soft Serve" | Caramel Powder | Fennel Pollen | PX Sherry
(to enjoy by itself or with a serving of our Pedro Ximenez Sherry)
Here's the wine line-up:
SPANISH WINES FLIGHT (3 WINES) ~ $10 (3 oz. pours)
2010 Shaya Verdejo
2009 Atteca Garnacha
2009 Tridente Tempranillo
RSVP ~ (619) 295-3939
Reservations are highly recommended.
SO YOU DON'T LIKE THESE WINES, EH?
In addition to the featured wine flight, we'll also have these and other wines available by the glass or bottle, as well as the usual pairing flight. We also have a full bar with lots of premium libations and attitude adjusters.
SO YOU DON'T LIKE THE DINNER SPECIAL, EH?
In addition to the special mentioned above, we'll also have several other 3-course menus (including vegetarian options) available. The bistro menu changes every week but you can get an example of a typical one by visiting our website, clicking on the calendar link, and then clicking on a recent Friday. The kitchen will be open until at least 9:00, so come on down and make an evening of it!
LOCATION & PHONE
Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upstairs terrace. Follow the black handrail up the stairs from the sidewalk to our front door. Our phone number is (619) 295-3939.
PARKING ~ FREE & PAID
On-street parking is usually available within a 3-block radius. Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones after 6:00 and that meters are also free after 6:00. You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed! If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street. So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!
WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES
2010 Shaya Verdejo ~ $14
(Spain) 100% Verdejo sourced from low-yielding vines ranging in age from 75 to well over 100 years. Floral nose of baking spices, flowers and sweet stone fruits. Creamy palate (from extended lees contact during barrel aging) of intense pear, melon, peach and orange flavors perfectly balanced with vibrant acidity in the evolution and extra long finish. An amazing value.
2009 Atteca Garnacha ~ $15
(Spain) Review by Robert Parker ~ 90 points: Sourced from mountainside vineyards and aged 10 months in French oak. Displays aromas of cedar, an earthy minerality, black cherry and lavender leading to a savory, deep, well-balanced red with succulent fruit and a lengthy, seamless finish. Drink this outstanding value through 2015.
2009 Tridente Tempranillo ~ $18
(Spain) Review by Robert Parker ~ 91 points: 100% Tempranillo from old vines (some exceeding 100 years old) aged 15 months in French oak. Aromas of toasty oak, graphite, balsamic, incense and black fruits are followed by a dense, powerful Tempranillo from the great 2009 vintage. Rich, savory and pleasure bent, it is a great value for drinking through 2017.
