"Sparkling Wines for Valentines Day.” Who doesn't love bubbles? Bubbly may be the most romantic style of wine in the world. Wine Merchant representative and AWS Member Tom Holton will present a survey of sparkling as a preface to Valentine’s Day. We’ll have a cava, Spain’s sparkling wine; an Italian Prosecco, California sparkler; and we’ll have sparklers from three regions of France – Loire, Champagne, and Limoux.
Tom will tell us about a region thought to have developed the process for making sparkling wine before Dom in Champagne. He’ll tell us how the bubbles get in there, why Champagne is expensive, why sparklers are the favorite fluid for celebration and why “extra dry” is actually sweeter than most sparkling wines. So much to learn, so much to enjoy. Tom's a professional wine educator and this is his second tasting for us. (The other was "Strive for 5 -- Understanding the World's Major Winegrapes.")
