Wine Vault & Bistro is pleased to announce a great new wine and food pairing dinner for you and your sweetheart to share this Valentine's Day.  Since Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday this year, we'll also serve the Valentine's menu on Saturday and Sunday for those who want to celebrate over the weekend, as well as on Monday.

As in past years, we've designed a special menu where the foods have purported aphrodisiac qualities.  The wines are equally special, too, and include a delicious Rose sparkler from the same folks who make Cristal, a delicious Rhone white blend from the Central Coast, a crowd-pleasing Pinot from the Sonoma coast plus an older vintage Napa Cab from Mt. Veeder that's at its peak of enjoyment.

Cost is a mere $59.50 per person and includes 5 courses, each paired with a special wine.  Here's the line-up.  Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested.

Buttermilk Fried Oysters | Celeriac "Slaw" | Dill | Kishu Mandarin Orange
NV Roederer Estate Brut Rose (one 5 oz. flute per person)

Jidori Chicken | Bacon Jam | Vandouvan Curry | Cauliflower | Quail Egg

RSVP ~ (619) 295-3939
Please make your reservations directly with Wine Vault & Bistro at 619-295-3939.  We're very good about returning calls promptly, so please leave a message with the best time to return your call if you get the dreaded voice mail.  Sales tax and an 18% gratuity will be added to the cost of all dinners.

SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS
If you have special dietary requests, please let us know when you RSVP, not when you arrive!  We're pretty flexible (within reason) with substitutions and will do our best to accommodate most special dietary requests if we can and if given advance notice.  Due to the complexity of the menu we regret that we are unable to accommodate vegetarian substitutions; however we can eliminate the protein and bulk up on the vegetarian sides.

WHERE
Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upper terrace.  Follow the black handrail from the sidewalk up the stairs to our front door.

PARKING
On-street parking is usually available within a 3-block radius.  Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones after 6:00 (or all day on Sunday) and that meters are also free after 6:00 (or all day on Sunday).  You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed!  If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street.  So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!

WINE SALES
Although some of the wines may be in limited quantities, all wines poured at this dinner will be available for purchase at the restaurant until sold out.  We reserve the right to limit sales of any rare or allocated wines at our discretion.

THE FINE PRINT
Due to fluctuations of supply, we reserve the right to make substitutions of equal or greater value in case any of the wines or foods become unavailable.  Please, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ... even if your babysitter flakes out on you at the last minute!

WINE REVIEWS & BOTTLE PRICES
NV Roederer Estate Brut Rose ~ $24
(Anderson Valley) Review by Wine Enthusiast ~ 92 points: 60% Pinot Noir + 40% Chardonnay.  Almost as pale as a Brut with a touch of salmon color and deeply flavored, this sparkler has subtle inviting flavors of cherries, strawberries, orange zest, vanilla and freshly baked brioche.  Very fine mousse with a silky mouth-feel.  The extra measure of Chardonnay in the blend contributes elegance and austerity which nicely balances the delicate fruitiness of the Pinot Noir.

2009 Halter Ranch "Ranch White" Rhône Blend ~ $12
(Paso Robles) Winemaker's Notes: Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier + Sauvignon Blanc.  Displays a luminous lemon hue and clean, youthful aromas of pear drop, peach, sweet grass, baking spices, oro blanco grapefruit, citrus blossom and toast.  Balanced, creamy palate of ripe peach, honeysuckle, grapefruit, candied citrus peel, honey and pineapple flavors with a crisp, lingering finish.  Delicious now with heavy-fleshed white fish and cream-sauced chicken and pasta dishes, it will develop more aromatic complexity and an even richer mouthfeel with 2-3 years of additional aging.

2010 Cazar "Sonoma Coast" Pinot Noir ~ $20
(Sonoma Coast) Classic Pinot nose of earthy black cherry, warm strawberry and sweet damp earth.  Slightly spicy attack of rich, earthy yet fruity and spicy black cherry and strawberry flavors nicely balanced with a faintly peppery, subtly spicy berry acidity in the evolution and with soft tannins in the long finish.

2004 Godspeed Cabernet Sauvignon ~ $34
(Mount Veeder, Napa Valley) Winemaker's Notes: Deep purple color with a big Mount Veeder nose of truffle, vanilla, cedar, black olive, manzanita and blackberry.  Luxuriously mouth-filling flavors of ripe black and blue fruits nicely balanced with lush, ripe berry acidity and restrained tannins.  A voluptuous and well-structured wine that is ready to drink now or cellar for another decade.

WV&B's Legendary Irish Coffee
Our untraditional and superior (in our humble opinion) twist on the classic Irish Coffee.  We start with extra strong (decaf) French Roast and plenty of Irish Whisky, but instead of sugar and whipped cream we use a magical and potent combination of Irish Mist (which replaces the sugar) and Irish Cream (which replaces the whipped cream).
