This whole valley was largely unknown to Americans and even other parts of Europe until the euphoric wine-buying days of the 1970s. Its vineyards are the oldest in the country, and some of France's most remarkable and distinguished reds trace their origins to this point. However, to this day, they seem to sit in the shadow of other prestigious regions like Bordeaux and Burgundy, and thus can be tremendous values in the marketplace. We will taste and discuss such prestigious appellations as Lirac, Chateauneuf du Pape, Crozes-Hermitage, Rasteau, St Joseph, and Cotes du Rhone in this exciting venture…seven wines in all.
