This grape variety is known the world over. It forms the backbone for many of the densest, longest-lived reds anywhere on the planet. Its wines tend to be big, full-bodied, and in need of at least a few years in the cellar (or closet, under the bed...). Despite these characteristics, however, this can be a versatile grape. This is exhibited most clearly when tasting a line-up of wines from numerous locales; Cabernet Sauvignon, when grown in South Africa, tastes different than its brethren raised in Bordeaux, or the Napa Valley, or in Tuscany. We will sample wines from these regions and many more, including Australia and a few unexpected zones.

We will also taste Cabernet Franc as well as Sauvignon Blanc, the two of which collectively form the parentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Yes, grapes, like people, have parents, and through tasting these two varieties, one can better understand the complexity of their progeny - the Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape that offers up dense and spicy flavors of green and black pepper, black currant, and even lead pencil. Prices of the bottles will range from hidden gems around $14 up to $60, maybe more. As always, a full complement of breads, olives, cheeses, & meats will be served. We hope to see you.
