While this tasting's emphasis is on education ThirtyFifty's roots are in presenting fun, interactive wine tastings. No boring you with lectures on terroir or anecdotes from the vineyard, instead we aim to give you a solid grounding on all aspects of enjoying wine.
The day is from 10.30am - 4.30pm with a delicious 3 course food & wine matching lunch from 12.30pm-1.30pm. We kick off with an introduction on how to taste wine and taste 18 great quality wines from around the world including whites, reds, fizz and dessert wines.
Course content:
How to taste wine with your eyes, nose and mouth!
What to look for in wine and how to recognise and assess the key components - tannins, acidity, sugar, alcohol.
How to evaluate quality with our one second trick for valuing a bottle of wine.
Blind tasting of 3 wines to see if you can put the theory into practice.
How wines change as they age and know when is the best time to drink them before they go past their peak. We also touch on common wine faults.
Tips on buying, storing and serving wine.
Food & wine matching guidelines and 3 wines matched with a 3 course lunch.
Single varietals or blended wines? Find out why winemakers blend and try it yourself to see if you can make a better wine!
Sparkling wines - take our Pop Quiz before you discover 3 different methods for making fizz and how this affects the style.
We finish the day with port and 2 types of dessert wines. A treat for our palates and the best way to end a glorious day of wine tasting!
