The UCLA Extension Wine Education & Management Certificate Program includes courses for those who are new to wine as well as those who are interested in a serious wine education. The goal of the program is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of where, why and how wine is made and appreciated all around the world.
Introduction to Wine is a six week course presenting introductory to intermediate wine information, including the intricacies of tasting wine, wine service, restaurant issues, wine and food pairing, terroir, grape growing, and winemaking. Noble grape varieties and the major wine regions of the world are discussed. A major portion of the class time is devoted to tasting and analyzing wine in a professional environment.
Instructor: Shelby Ledgerwood, CWE, Savant Wines
Shelby is a senior instructor in the Wine Education and Management Certificate Program at UCLA Extension and a former Academic Instructor of wine at The California School of Culinary Arts (Le Cordon Bleu). Shelby Ledgerwood is a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) with the Society of Wine Educators and holds credentials from numerous wine organizations such as: The Court of Master Sommeliers, The Wine and Spirits Education Trust, The Wine Academy of Spain, L’Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux and L’Ecole du Vin de Bourgogne. Shelby is the founder/owner of Savant Wines, a wine education company based in Southern California.
