Wine OR Wine & Food

Join us for this Saturday afternoon’s wine tasting, when we’ll be pouring red blends from five distinctly different regions in Europe and the US.  Between 3 and 6pm, we’ll be sampling wines from Portugal, France, Spain, California, and Washington:

2009 Chateau Parenchere Clairet, Bordeaux, France

This Bordeaux Clairet (rosé) derives its individuality from the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from which it is made that re traditionally used to make red Bordeaux.  As such it has a structure which makes it unique.  With its intense aromas, this wine maintains however the fruitiness and crispness that make roses so charming.  Great with all types of dishes from grilled meats to salads and spicy foods.

2007 Bacio Divino Pazzo, Napa Valley, California
The bistro-styled 2007 Pazzo, one of the better values in the rather inflated pricing world of Napa Valley. A blend of Sangiovese and a few other grapes, the 2007 exhibits lots of roasted herb, pepper, spice, red and black fruit notes, a soft underbelly, and luscious density as well as purity. This sexy, seductive red should be consumed in its first few years of life. All grapes are from Napa Valley vineyards.  74% Sangiovese, 8% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon,  6% Petite Sirah, 6% Viognier.

2008 J Portugal Ramos Vila Santa, Alentejano, Portugal

Always an impressive wine, this vintage of Vila Santa shows its class. There is a fine balance between superrich fruit, which is then shaped by dry tannins and fresh, mouth-tingling acidity. It has a great structure, and will certainly age over 3-4 years. 30% Aragones, 30% Touriga Nacional, 15% Trincadeira, 15% Alicante Bouschet, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

2007 Joan d'Anguera Finca L'Argata, Montsant, Spain

Vivid ruby. Powerful aromas of black raspberry and blueberry, with notes of licorice and violet adding depth. Chewy dark berry flavors gain sweetness with aeration and pick up a spicy note of cracked pepper. Finishes with solid punch and a strong note of tangy minerality. Made from 40% Syrah, 40 % Grenache, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.  Fermented in stainless steel then aged in French oak for 12 months.  Production: 1,200 cases.  91 POINTS, STEPHEN TANZER'S IWC

2007 Tamarack Cellars Firehouse Red, Columbia Valley, WashingtonTastes like really, really good red wine. Which varietal is lending which notes? Who cares? Rounded, lush, layered and lovely, the ultimate food wine, pairing well with everything from pasta and pizza to grilled meat and roasted chicken.  Bright raspberry, currant, mocha, a touch of pepper spice, soft tannins and a lingering finish… year in and year out, it’s like partying with an old friend. 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Syrah, 16% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec, 3% Sangiovese, 1% Carmenere, 1% Petit Verdot.
