Wine OR Wine & Food

Wines of California

The theme of this year’s Master Wine Tasting Event

is “wines you may know and wines you’ll want to know.”

We think it’s safe to say that these California labels will likely fall

into the “wines you know” category, coming, as they do, from three

of the most celebrated wineries in the world.

– RED –

Freemark Abb ey Sycamore, Rutherford, Napa Valley, 2003

Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

Tasting note: “Black raspberries and dark cherries

wrapped in a milk chocolate coat. This is the benchmark

for what great California Cabernets should be.”

Pair it with: Filet Mignon

Beringer Bancroft Ranch, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, 2003

Merlot

Tasting note: “Ripe-black fruit flavors with hints of cedar and roasted coffee

beans. The mountain fruit in this wine makes for some of the most forceful, yet

smooth, wines in the New World.”

Pair it with: Delmonico or Dry Aged Sirloin

– WHITE –

Camb ria Bench Break, Santa Maria, 2006

Chardonnay

Tasting note: “Rich, buttery citrus, peach and nutmeg flavors

with a minerality that is seldom found in California Chardonnays.”

Pair it with: Cedar Planked Salmon

Wines of Spain

Over the last twenty years, wine impresario Jorge Ordoñez

has played a pivotal role in elevating the wines of his native

Spain to the international stage. He mentors selected artisan

vintners as they modernize and create flavor profiles that will

appeal to a global audience, while retaining their unique

Spanish character. This is a rare opportunity to experience

what will very likely be the next great wines of Spain.

RED –

Triton, Tinta del Toro, Castilla y Leon, 2008

Tempranillo

Tasting note: “This will be the next great wine of Spain.

An explosion of red and black raspberries, with massive but smooth tannins.

A seductive blend of power and complexity, wrapped in a Spanish blanket.”

Pair it with: Double Cut Lamb Rib Chops

Avante, Bierzo, 2009

Mencia

Tasting note: “Mencia is the hottest native varietal

in Spain right now. This is an exotic red wine with flavors

and aromas of wild blueberries, dark cherries and toast.

It is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a smooth finish.”

Pair it with: Veal Chop or Sesame Seared Tuna

– WHITE –

Botani, Malaga, 2008/09

Muscat

Tasting note: “Made from old vines on the steep slate slopes of Malaga,

this crisp and dry white is unlike any other in the world. Its floral aromatics

make you think it might be sweet, but it is dry and food friendly.”

Pair it with: Seared Citrus Glazed Salmon

Jorge Ordoñez Vict oria #2, Málaga, 2006/07

Muscat of Alexandria

Tasting note: “Muscat of Alexandria is a variety of the muscat grape

that is used for dessert wines. This wine is fresh and intense, with a mix

of freshly peeled apple, orange peel, bee pollen and aromatic herbs.”

Pair it with: All of our desserts

Wines of Austrailia

Within just a few years of their first successful vine planting in

Australia in the early 1800s, the enthusiastic vintners from down

under began exporting their wines across the globe. Today, Australia is

the fourth-largest exporter in the world, boasting internationally

acclaimed wines most wine lovers will be familiar with, as well as

world-class wines few will have heard of. We are thrilled to share with

you a collection of vintages that represent the very best of Aussie wines.

– RED –

Greg Norman Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra, 2002

Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting note: “Black currant, mocha, cedar wood, and spice

are all evident on the palate. Fine tannins and a firm structure

characterize this elegant, distinctive Coonawarra Cabernet.”

Pair it with: Sliced Filet with Cipollini Onions and Wild Mushrooms

Greg Norman Reserve Shiraz, Limestone Coast, 2003

Shiraz

Tasting note: “Flavors of plums, blackberries, and spicy clove,

with supple tannins and a long finish. Compare to the Beringer Merlot

and Triton Tinto del Toro and see which you like best.”

Pair it with: Delmonico or Dry Aged Sirloin

The Chook Sparkling Shiraz

Shiraz

Tasting note: “This is a wine done only in Australia. Rich

and lightly sweet raspberry, blackberry and strawberry jam flavors

make this a great apertif wine or dessert sparkler.”

Pair it with: Use it for an opening toast, or enjoy it with (or as) dessert.

– WHITE –

Penfolds Bin 311, Tumb arumb a, 2008

Chardonnay

Tasting note: “Flavors of grapefruit and lemon, with a subtle

creaminess coming from French oak barrel maturation.

With a backbone of mineral acidity, this wine is as complex

and restrained as an Australian Chardonnay can be.”

Pair it with: Roasted Chicken or Broiled Lobster
