Twin Cities Wine presents: Re-appreciating Chardonnay
Join wine educator Jason Kallsen for a night of tasting one of the great grapes of the world, one that has been misunderstood and unfairly knocked in the last ten years (sometimes by Jason himself!). That grape is, of course, Chardonnay.
The "ABC" ("Anything but Chardonnay") movement that started in the early 2000's was justified in their position -- most Chards made at that time were flabby, oaky, rich, buttery monsters that had no place in the scheme of food and wine pairing. Over the next ten years, many of the lesser producers simply got out of the Chardonnay business while at the same time the true believers started making better and better wine with careful production methods.
We'll start with a quick history and overview of Chardonnay, including a discussion of what make Chablis and wines from the Cote d'Or of Burgundy so incredibly good. Then we'll taste through a world tour of geographies and styles, from crisp and clean un-oaked Chards to really good and really memorable richly textured 'butter bombs' (yes, there are good ones out there and you'll learn why they are good).
Only $30 per person. Sign up on Local Wine Events or call North Loop Wine and Spirits at 612-338-5393.
