Grace Summer Wine Tours – Italy Friday, August 13th, 2010

Please join us at Grace Friday, June 25th from 5:30 - 7:30 for our summer wine tour of Italy!  Italy is its own world when it comes to wine.  They compete internationally in Cab and Merlot blends, but the essence of Italian wine is indigenous grape varietals with traditional and modern techniques speaking the true Italian essence of “In Vino Veritas”… ah but I digress.  Every region in Italy makes wine and this format cannot hit all seventeen but we will focus on five areas that encompass a vast majority of DOC & DOCG wines.

We will begin our tour during the reception from 5:30-6:00 with a variety of Italian bubbles: Franciacorte, Prosecco, Lambrusco, & Moscato d’Asti. We will then sit and travel to the Veneto and Valpolicella for some Soave Classico, Ripasso, & Amarone.  Next is east to Piemonte for Gavi, Dolcetto, Barbera, Barbaresco & Barolo.  Then we will continue south to Tuscany and indulge in some Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Classico, Bolgheri Rosso & Brunello di Montalcino. Lastly, we will travel south of Rome to check out Marche, Puglia and Campania for an eclectic selection of Nero di Troia, Verdicchio & Aglianico…  Whew I tired just thinking about this fantastic introduction to Italian wines!  Twenty total wines will be served over this structured tasting.

Maps, Le Nez du Vin Smell Kit Samples, and general wine information and tasting instruction will be given by Ryan Tedder, Head Sommelier.  The format will be relaxed and fun with an emphasis on exploring the different wine styles and regions of Italy in a comfortable setting. I guarantee you will have a good time!

Cost will be $75 plus tax & gratuity and space will be limited to 35 people.
