Please Note:  This class is open to a maximum of 12 people.  First come first served.  You do not have a reservation to this class until you have purchased a ticket on this site. 

This class series is being offered as an initiative for the San Diego community outreach during the economic downturn in order to help train those looking for employment in the wine and food industries.  Current wine & food businesses may also send their employees to this class as well for training.  This class has been subsidized and is a $427 valueThis series of subsidized classes is for educational purposes only and does not guarantee employment.or the guarantee of passing any of the wine certification exams.

Yep.  You read correctly the admission cost of this series of five classes is $135 which includes tasting 4 wines each evening (total of 20 wines. These wines will not be "cheapies", they will be of good to excellent quality representations of wines within their class or style.  You must be 21 with a valid government id in order to attend.  However you will have to purchase the book for the class from your favorite bookstore (Oz Clarke's Introducing Wine: A Complete Guide for the Modern Wine Drinker - any edition) 

In addition you must bring your own wine glass.  Information will be sent to you with recommendations on the type of glass to bring.

It is not mandatory but anyone who would like to purchase the instructor's handouts/ may do so for $3 per copy.

Class Dates Are:

  1. Class 1 Tuesday, Sept. 14th (6:30PM-9:15PM)
  2. Class 2 Tuesday, Sept. 21st (6:30PM-9:15PM)
  3. Class 3 Tuesday, Sept 28th (6:30PM-9:15PM)
  4. Class 4 Tuesday, Oct. 5th (6:30PM-9:15PM
  5. Class 5 Tuesday, Oct 12th(6:30PM-9:15PM)

There is good news and bad news!  The bad news is you must purchase your own book (listed above) & you must bring your own glass & clean your own glass for every class. 

Now for the good news! This is a Professional Level class. The instructor will provide water crackers, spit cups, water cups, a tasting of four wines (1 oz per person) per class, white background and excellent quality instruction from a certified sommelier.

It is strongly advised for the optimum success the student read the assigned chapters before each class. The information imparted in the classes is focused on employer requirements of employment and focused on passing credible wine tests/exams. The class series is not endorsed by any of the wine education organizations listed below.  For legal reasons this program is considered an independent tasting group.

Once you have registered for this class you will be sent a Word doc information on  the class schedule, room info and what to bring to the first class.

The instructor for this class is certified sommelier Tracy Wallace. Tracy is the VP of Wine, Beer and Spirits Education for the School of the Service Arts (www.schoolfortheservicearts.com),  an Instructor and Advisory Board Member for SDSU’s Business of Wine Program(extension.ucsd.edu/ and full time Wine & Spirits Director for a private collector.
