Dave Corey, who began his Central Coast career as a pest control adviser at Cambria Vineyards, and later Kendall Jackson, then spent many years working as a viticulture consultant for vineyards including Laetitia, Barnwood (now Santa Barbara Highlands), Beckmen, Melville, Stolpman, Sea Smoke, Fiddlestix and Andrew Murray, which earned him familiarity with the fruit at those sites, which are scattered across Santa Barbara County. When the couple launched the Core label, they opted to use fruit from the Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard and Alta Mesa Vineyard, a 17.5-acre mourvedre and grenache site located at an elevation of 3,200 feet that overlooks the larger Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard.
