Italian Wine Tasting at Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits

Wednesday (2/10/10) 6-8pm at Khoury’s on S. Durango / Thursday (2/11/10) 6-8pm at Khoury’s on S. Eastern

It's always a pleasure to try the Vinifera imports Italian selections of world-class wines. Vinifera is a small importer that specializes in boutique wineries from all over Italy. Our Vinifera rep Fabrizio, always takes good care of us when selecting unique wines and varietals when hosting our wine tastings.  With Valentines around the corner Fabrizio has included three sparkling wines into the mix.

1998 Neitea Super Tuscan………………………………………………….....$29.99

New world fans...stop reading right now. This wine is an old world gem, a steal at this price.  This is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet.  This wine exhibits a ruby center with browning edges, shows it's age well. Nose is very dirt with black olives, tobacco, and undertones of black cherries. On the palate, very smooth, hints of licorice, black olives again, subtle dark fruit towards the mid-palate and then at the relatively long finish the cherries finally make their appearance along with some anise or fennel-like flavor. The acidity is calm and balanced and the tannins are smooth and refined. No heat whatsoever from the alcohol. This is a tremendous food wine, anything red sauce, sausage&peppers, braised dishes like osso bucco, heck even pizza come to mind too. Those Italians sure know what to drink with their food. At this price, for such a well aged and obviously well cellared wine, this is a fantastic deal.

Icardi Barbera Di Asti…………………………………………………………$13.99

89 Points Robert Parker-The 2006 Barbera d’Asti Tabarin is a delicious, entry-level wine. It reveals plenty of fragrant dark fruit with elegant tannins and impressive roundness for a wine from Asti. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.

Soligo Millesimato 2006 Prosecco…………………………..On Special $21.99

“A bright straw yellow colour and long-lasting finish. It has an elegant bouquet rich with flowers, pleasantly fruity with clear notes of peaches. It has a pleasant, full flavour with well-balanced tanginess, which is given by the cold maceration and low temperature fermentation method, and the right level of sweetness. It is excellent as a drink at any time of the day and ideal with desserts.”

Braida Mosctato Di’ Asti………………………………………...On special $16.99

Bright straw yellow, nice foam and rich perlage. An extraordinarily fresh bouquet, and quite varied; from among the many notes one can distinguish fresh fruit, orange blossoms, rose and musk. A sweet flavor, but a graceful one, aromatic characteristics of the grape, delicious and with a long finish. Winemaker’s notes

Icardi Brachetto d’ Aqui………. ………………………………………………$18.99

100% Brachetto d’Aqui from Piedmont. Aromatic with a hint of rose petals and raspberries. A red sparkling wine with some sweetness and low alcohol (6.5%). A festive, effervescent wine that can be served as a sweet aperitif or can be paired well with a number of foods, including chocolate and creamy cheeses.
