Explore your interest in and enthusiasm for wine in a unique five-day experience at UBC Okanagan!

• Savour food & wine of the Okanagan

• Meet Okanagan winemakers

• Learn skills in wine tasting and food & wine pairing

 

CLASSES

Participants will receive a total of 24 hours of Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) instruction with additional hours of instruction in Chemistry & Wine Analysis, Culture & Geography of Wine, and Food & Wine Pairing. All classes will be taught by UBC Okanagan faculty and by local wine experts..

 

WSET® Intermediate Certificate.

The UBC Okanagan Wine School will offer the Intermediate level WSET® course, with the option to write an exam and receive the Intermediate Certificate. This course covers winemaking, grape growing and the major grape varieties of the world.

 

WSET Instructor
Rhys Pender is a wine educator, freelance wine writer, wine judge, and consultant in the industry. Rhys’ career includes experience in the vineyard, cellar, wine retail, education, and hospitality – providing knowledge in all facets of the business. He has completed all levels of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) and is currently working toward the prestigious Master of Wine qualification.

TOURS
Participants will tour selected Okanagan wineries and vineyards.

MEALS
A scrumptious food & wine pairing meal prepared by a local chef will be included in the program. Meals held off-campus at local wineries are not included in the cost of the program.

REGISTRATION FEE
The total program fee is $1,420 with the WSET exam*, or $1,315 without the WSET exam. The Wine School program fee covers tuition, an individual tasting pack, scheduled winery/vineyard tours, and a food & wine pairing lunch. The fee must be paid in full to reserve a place. Participants must be 19 years of age or older to register. GST is included in the program fees where applicable.

*Individuals must register for the exam option at least 2 weeks prior to the program start date.

Note: There is a $50 administration fee for participants who withdraw up to two weeks before the Wine School begins. There is no refund for participants who withdraw less than two weeks before the program starts. UBC Okanagan reserves the right to cancel a course/program. Registrants affected by such a cancellation will be contacted at least one week prior to the course/program start date.

LOCATION All on-campus classes will be held in ARTS 185, UBC Okanagan.
