This limited series is aimed towards those who want to take wine tasting in the Finger Lakes to the next level. Each event will focus on developing the knowledge, skills, and appreciation to become an informed taster of fine wines.
Event 1: Great Tastes of the Finger Lakes Tour
This full day tour is designed to show off some of the best wine currently available from the Finger Lakes. We will visit four wineries, representing the major “wine growing” regions along Keuka (Keuka Spring Vineyards), West Seneca (Anthony Road Wine Company) , East Seneca (Damiani Wine Cellars), and Cayuga Lakes (Sheldrake Point Vineyard). Each winery was carefully selected based on the overall performance of their currently available vintages – from scores awarded from the national wine magazines, to awards earned in state, national and international wine competitions. These wines (mostly 2008 whites and 2007 reds) are in limited supply and are sure to be gone by the beginning of the Finger Lakes summer tourism season.
Throughout the day, you will learn the aspects of wine evaluation and learn how to taste wines like the tasting professionals, using wine-tasting scoring tools provided on the tour. At each winery, you will experience a carefully-selected flight of their most highly-awarded wines as well as one “featured” signature wine, which will be presented by a member of the wine-making team. Using your newly developed skills you will determine your own evaluation of this wine’s features and characteristics.
The tour will include a tasting lunch that will evolve across the different wineries, from cheese pairings, sandwiches and spreads from local restaurants, to chocolates individually-crafted to go with the wines you will be tasting.
For those coming from out of town, we have developed a special package with La Tourelle Resort and Spa that includes the two-night stay, and breakfast for two Saturday and Sunday mornings at Simply Red Bistro.
