Wine OR Wine & Food
In addition to our regular complimentary tasting, this Saturday we’re offering a premium tasting of fine Italian reds. For only $18 per person ($15 for Wine Club members), taste all 5 of these incredible wines:
1999 Il Marroneto Brunello, Tuscany
90 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This Brunello di Montalcino is the epitome of elegant and
expressive varietal character in its fragrant wild cherry and red currant nose,
given an additional complexity by the floral and anisette notes. The flavors
are polished, precise, and balanced, silky and long, with the finesse finding
its perfect counterfoil in the tensile strength of the tannins and the length
and continuity of flow and finish. Drink: 2005-2015.
2003
Massolino Barolo d'Alba, Piedmont
92 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Massolino decided against bottling their single-vineyard Barolos
in 2003, opting instead for a blend, which consumers will be able to enjoy at a
very reasonable price considering today’s market environment. The estate’s 2003
Barolo is made in a soft approachable style. It reveals notable depth in its
core of vibrant black cherries with lovely purity and well-integrated tannins.
This is a terrific effort from Massolino. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018.
2001
Fattoria Rodáno Monna Claudia, Tuscany
90 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Gorgeous aromatics meld into super-ripe dark fruit as this richly-textured wine
opens in the glass. Named after Claudia Pozzesi, Vittorio's youngest child,
this extract-packed Super Tuscan -- aged in barrique (60% of which are new) for
18 months -- is only bottled in exceptional years from the severest selection
of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Viacosta vineyard. Drink:
2010-2019.
2005
Ceretto Barbaresco Asij, Piedmont
90 Points, Wine Spectator
Aromas of berries, chocolate and coffee. Full-bodied, with soft
tannins and a long, fruity finish. 2,400 cases made. Best starting in 2011.
2005
Tutela Amarone della Valpolicella, Veneto
Velvet smooth with a hint of bitterness. A tight, mineral
driven Amarone, with spicy black fruit, dried fig and polished leather
notes. Full bodied, with a juicy and slightly chewy palate and long
finish. Almost port-like aromas, with a rasiny, minerally edge.
