Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

What do most Texans do after having two or three days of nothing but turkey and turkey leftovers?  They head out for Mexican food!  This Saturday we’re tasting wines to pair with your south-of-the-border fare.  Stop in between 3 and 6 PM and sample selections that can hold up to tamales, tacos al carbon, fajitas, spicy enchiladas, and even chocolate-dipped churros:

2008 Lucien Albrecht Gewurztraminer Reserve, Alsace, France
The Gewurztraminer Reserve is made from selected (prime) grapes. Bursting with the aroma of honey, red roses and tropical fruit, yet dry and rich on the palate, this wine is lovely to drink on a warm afternoon by itself or paired in a meal with rich, creamy poultry dishes. It releases both to the mouth and the nose lychee, rose petal and spice aroma.

2005 Rotta Merlot, Paso Robles, California
Brilliant ruby color. Spicy raspberry coulis, honeycomb, and melted chocolate aromas follow through on a bright, round entry to a fruity, juicy medium body with tangy red berry, spice and chocolate pie flavors. Finishes with a lively, chocolate covered citrus peel, nut, and apple skin fade with mild fruit tannins. A fun, lively wine to have as an aperitif or with BBQ.

2006 Enzo di Sette Rue Primitivo, Salento, Italy
A juicy, fruity, take-me Italian red at an awesome price, delivering lots of cocoa and cherry character in a medium-bodied frame, with soft tannins and a long, fruity finish. Delicious licorice, blackberry and smoky oak tones and dark ruby color accompany the aromas of dark berry and raspberry.

2005 Twisted Oake Tempranillo, Calaveras County, CA
A study in progress, as are all California Temps. This is easily Twisted Oak’s best so far. Dry and medium-bodied, it shows rich cherry, red currant, tangerine zest and pepper flavors, rendered complex with earthier notes of tobacco, tar and cedar. The texture is a lovely, lilting silk.

2006 M Cosentino Cabernet Franc, Lodi, California
Black fruit, clove, allspice and vanilla in the nose. Youthful and intense with white pepper, red cherry and soft mineral overtones that carry through the mouth into a long finish. This full-bodied wine has long, ripe tannins with good structure and is excellently balanced. It should age well for the next 10-12 years.

2007 Rocland Chocolate Box Dark Shiraz, Barossa Valley, Australia
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast (Editor's Choice)
Color is deep, dark, with purple hues.  Strong coffee and chocolate aromas supported with blackberries and spice.  On the palate, it shows sweet vanillin oak, supportive tannins that finish smooth and silky. The wine also displays a great balance of alcohol, acid and oak. Well rounded yet bold
