EVENT DETAILS:
On Sunday December 6 at 6pm we are hosting a very special wine tasting.

We have been collecting some very small production wines in anticipation of this tasting and we are happy to finally announce a date.

The wines we are featuring for this tasting all occupy rare air in the wine world.  All own ratings between 92 - 98 points.  All but the Krug have fewer than 1,500 cases imported, and in the case of the Malaga as few as 75 cases.  We encourage you to look at this tasting as a preview of these wines as most will benefit from cellering and purchasing while young will enable you to reap savings in the future.

Some of our favorite producers are represented and some of these bottles were purchased from the winemaker themselves.  Please click on the hyperlinks if you are unfamilar with any of these wines, but move quickly as this tasting is limited to 10 attendees.

This tasting will be led by Sommelier Eoin Connors.  Rustic food will be served to complement the ultra refined pedigree of the wines featured

$125

Featured wines are:

Krug Grande Cuvee

Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne.
Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex.
In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively.
Could the wine be getting even better?  No question-this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes.

Livio Felluga Colli Orientali del Friulli Terre Alte
The 2006 vintage is limited to 200 cases

This sneaks up on you with lemon, apple, orange and mango aromas and flavors.
Full and rich, yet delicate and lively, with a very, very long and flavorful finish.
Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon.

Vietti Barolo Lazzarito
The 2005 vintage is limited to 430 cases

What a joy it is to taste the 2005 Barolo Lazzarito.
A dramatic, large-scaled wine, the Lazzarito sweeps across the palate with awesome density and richness.
Classic Serralunga notes of melted road tar, menthol, new leather, spices, plums and black cherries emerge from this breathtaking, powerful Barolo.  Currado has backed off the French oak and gradually lengthened maceration times in this bottling which has resulted in a Barolo of uncommon elegance and transparency to site.  Despite the wine's sheer opulence, the finish is long and fresh, with lingering notes of tobacco and autumn leaves, suggesting the Lazzarito has years of fine drinking ahead of it. This is a superb effort.

Penfolds RWT
The 2005 vintage is limited to 1500 cases

 Winemaker's notes:
Color: Glistening purple

Nose: Giveaway, pristine Barossa Valley Shiraz fruit aromas; fresh blueberry pie and blood plum.
A barrel-fermented vapor net entraps scents of cinnamon and nutmeg, violet and bergamot.
Flirting strawberry yogurt and freshly cut rhubarb aromatics unwittingly entice.
A nose of elevated and finessed perfumed high notes a la RWT!

Palate: The palate is balanced and full-bodied with a silken, lush, "tofu-like" texture, replete with generous, ripe, even yet firm tannins.  Flavors of wild-berry fruits - blueberry, boysenberry and loganberry, again verging towards raspberry yoghurt, redefine the "sweet-conserve" descriptor - neither porty nor residual sugarsweet, but lush and (dry red) unctuous.
This is another great Barossa vintage, highlighting the strength of any of the Barossa sourced 2005 reds.

Bodegas El Nido
The 2006 vintage is limited to 850 cases

The 2006 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell aged for 26 months in new oak.
Aromas of wild blueberry and black currant are room-filling.  Dense, layered, and totally hedonistic, it has serous depth and concentration, impeccable balance, and a 60-second finish.  A bit more structured than Clio, it will have a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2026.  Bodegas El Nido employs Aussie vigneron Chris Ringland as its winemaking consultant.

Jorge Ordonez Malaga Victoria
The 2006 vintage is limited to 75 cases

Honeyed in texture and flavor, this alluring white offers melon, lychee, orange and salted caramel flavors, broad and smooth yet with enough acidity for balance.  Rich, yet not a bit heavy.  Drink now through 2012.

Quinta do Noval Vintage Port
The 2003 vintage is limited to 100 cases

What a nose. Ripe fruit, with chocolate, blackberries and raisins. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with velvety tannins.
Finish goes on and on. Layered and wonderful. Best after 2014.
