Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

With the holiday season upon us, it’s time to start dreaming of all of your family’s favorite traditional holiday dishes.  But what about the wine?  Marian Cherrone from Slocum and Sons will join us as we taste through wines that will pair perfectly with your holiday feast!

2007 Schloss-Schönborn Estate Riesling

Schloss Schönborn is one of Germany's largest and oldest estates and can be traced back to the times of the crusades in 1349. The estate is still family owned today. The famous Marcobrunn vineyard as interpreted by Schloss Schonborn is truly a delight but not for the faint of heart. This is an old style Baroque Riesling - big, heavy and concentrated with the Marcobrunn nose of mineral, spice and herbs tempered with a warm rich earthy character. Wound up and still young, drink it now for its sheer intensity or put down to let the complexity come out.

$19 a bottle / $205 a case

2007 Domaine Laroquette-Manciat Macon Morizottes

The manual harvest on the 7 hectares of the domain, traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques in Oak barrels, the elevage on 'lies' followed by 'batonnage' and the latest harvest possible brings a rare, complex, powerful and elegant Macon. This is how Chardonnay should taste. The wine is delicate in the best sense of the word. It has a certain creaminess that comes from the fruit rather than from oak. It is light, refreshing and delicious.

$14 a bottle / $151 a case

2007 Jean Paul Brun Old Vine Beaujolais

Amazingly ripe-smelling and yet has great freshness and honesty. The distinguishing feature is that it spreads itself horizontally right across the palate rather than tasting like a thin streak on the finish. It also tasted very good, and quite complex, at room temperature whereas many Beaujolais need to be cooled to be charming. Wonderful persistence too. I think this wine is also probably the best value of Jean-Paul Brun’s offerings.

$18 a bottle / $195 a case

2006 Marietta Zinfandel

Totally saturated black ruby, still showing some violet highlights at the rim. Classic, very ripe Zin nose of sweet, spicy raspberry and blackberry, with sweet maple syrup and crushed rock notes. Massive, jammy, almost sweet fruit envelopes the mouth, but with good, balanced acidity and a nice bit of peppery heat in the back end.

$22 a bottle / $238 a case
