Wine OR Wine & Food
Choosing wine for Thanksgiving is not really all that difficult. Simply put, there are a great variety of wines (both red and white), which work quite well with this meal. Although turkey, by itself is somewhat simple, the flavorful side dishes that accompany the bird are what really make Thanksgiving dinner interesting. Pinot Noir, with its slight, sour cherry flavor, goes great with cranberries for instance. Unusual recipes, such as spicy sausage stuffing, might call for an Italian varietal like Barbera, Sangiovese, or Montepulciano (a flavorful California Zinfandel would work too). For whites, floral wines like Riesling and Pinot Gris (Gewürztraminer is also an excellent choice if you dare) are perfect with squash, yams and sweet potatoes. Champagne or some other sparkling is never ever inappropriate. Please join us this Saturday, Nov. 21 from 2-5pm to sample some of our favorite traditional Thanksgiving wine pairings.
Here is a partial list of wines to be tasted:
Henriot Brut Champagne, King Estate Pinot Gris, 7 Deadly Zins (Zinfandel), Cline “Cool Climate” Syrah, La Valentina Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Bouchaine Pinot Noir.
Reminder: Our Annual Holiday Wine Tasting is coming up on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2pm-5pm. Dozens of wines, gourmet cheeses, and breads will be served. 20% discount on 12 bottles or more. As always, there is no charge for this event. Please bring a friend.
