November 20, 2009 (Fri)
from 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Bluemont, VA
Cost: Free event; fees for wine tasting and food and wine purchases
Event ID #283061
FRESH celebrates the farmer, thinkers and business people across
America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the
rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and
confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental
pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forgoing
healthier alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of
our food and our planet. Among several main characters, FRESH features
urban farmer and activist, Will Allen, the recipient of MacArthur’s
2008 Genius Award; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur, Joel Salatin,
made famous by Michael Pollan’s book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma; and
supermarket owner, David Ball, challenging our Wal-Mart dominated
economy. Bluemont Vineyard and eCycle Green collective are very excited
to host this event and hope to raise awareness of the important matters
in how and what we eat. Please join us for a screening of this powerful
movie. Matt and Ruth Szechenyi with Briars Farmstead will speak before
the movie about sustainable farming as learned from one of the featured
farmers in the film Joel Salatin. Local Sixfortyseven will be serving
samples of Briar's sustainably raised chickens. Limited seating,
registration not required but warmly appreciated.
