GRGICH HILLS ESTATE

Grgich Hills Cellar was founded July 4, 1977 by Miljenko “Mike” Grgich and Austin Hills of the Hills Bros. Coffee family. Austin owned established vineyards and had an extensive business background, and Mike had just made his reputation as one of the world’s great winemakers.  In the now-historic 1976 Paris Tasting, Mike’s 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay bested the top white Burgundies to win First Place (see the movie “Bottle Shock”).  In 2007, they changed their name to Grgich Hills Estate in recognition of their wines being completely estate grown.  Grgich Hills Estate owns five Napa Valley vineyards, with a total of 366 acres under vine (the country’s largest Biodynamic® vineyard acreage), and an annual case production of 700,000.
