Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

We’re looking forward to a special tasting this Saturday, when Lauren Albanese from the importer Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd. will be here pouring complimentary tastes of six wines from Argentina and Spain. Drop in between 3 and 6pm, meet Lauren, and taste some nice wines - a few of which have received great press.  And you’d never guess they’re all under $15!

DeAnna Wendolyn will entertain us with her smooth acoustic sounds as you taste these selections:

2007 Maximo Viura, Castilla, Spain
The wine exhibits a pale, green sparkle characteristic of the Viura grape, and the green overtones visible signify its freshness. There are aromas of a mixture of lavender and hay, green apples, and delicate but intense floral and citrus fruit aromas. In the mouth, the wine is round, mellow and dry, with well-balanced acidity, before a delicate, spicy aftertaste. Pair this with seafood and grilled fish and serve it as an aperitif.

2007 Trapiche Broquel Torrontes, Cafayate Valley, Argentina
The elegant wine has aromas of red apples, honey and cinnamon. It is full bodied and round, with a soft finish in the mouth.   Pair with sushi, shrimp, shellfish, scallops, fish, Asian cuisine, and white meats. 95% Torrontes, 5% Chardonnay.

2007 Trapiche Oak Cask Pinot Noir, Mendoza, Argentina
The wine exhibits complex red fruit and sour cherry aromas with subtle notes of toasted bread, vanilla and butterscotch, from the oak aging. The wine shows an excellent balance between fruit, acidity and sweetness. Serve with veal, turkey, salmon, pork, grilled vegetables, chicken.

2007 Maximo Tempranillo, Tierra de Castilla, Spain
With a deep, cherry red color, the wine shows aromas of plums and red berries with tobacco and vanilla notes. In the mouth, the wine has a vibrant, velvety and sweet character, with red fruits and licorice and mint traces, and soft tannins. It is easy drinking, and is a perfect match for tapas, as well as red meat dishes and roast lamb.

2007 Trapiche Broquel Bonarda, Mendoza, Argentina
The Bonarda grape, commonly known to originate in northern Italy's region of Piedmont, finds its best expression in Argentina, where it has been widely planted. The property’s best plots of this varietal are used to make this wine, which shows a deep red color with blue hints. On the nose, prominent blueberry and ripe cherry aromas stand out. With sweet flavors in the mouth, the wine shows ripe, soft tannins. The new oak barrels contribute coconut and smoke notes to this elegant wine.   Serve with soft cheeses, roasts, red meat, pasta in meat sauce, hard cheeses, grilled vegetables, grilled meats, fowl, beef, BBQ.

2007 Trapiche Broquel Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina
The wine shows aromas of black fruit jam and liqueur, with notes of vanilla, chocolate and smoke. On the palate, its ample and rich, with a long finish and soft tannins.  roasts, red meat, hard cheeses, grilled vegetables, grilled meats, fowl, beef, BBQ.
