Spain's most exciting and highly sought-after red wines are coming from Priorat, in the northeast corner of the country. In the mountains just south of Barcelona, old-vine Carignan and Grenache grown in the infertile soil and arid climate produces wines of intense concentration and depth. For this tasting we'll start off with a wine from neighboring Montsant for comparison purposes and then taste four stellar Priorats at a range of prices, including the 2005 Mas d'en Compte Priorat (94 points Robert Parker), available only at Thief Wine! The wines will be:

• Celler de Capcanes 2005 "Mas Donis Barrica", Montsant ($14.50)
• Celler Cal Pla 2005 Priorat ($19.95)
• Alvaro Palacios 2007 "Camins del Priorat", Priorat ($26.95)
• Mas d'En Compte 2005 Priorat ($45.95)
• Melis 2005 Priorat ($89.95)

Cost of the tasting is $25. Seatings are at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. RSVPs are required.
