The French Cellar Presents The Real Beaujolais!

The French Cellar will again not be participating in "Beaujolais Nouveau" on the third Thursday of the month, November 19th.  As you may already know, the French government is no longer subsidizing or supporting the Beaujolais Nouveau Harvest, and if you sampled some of the last few years' mouthfuls of the "Nouveau", if it hasn't already shown shades of "plonk", is approaching it (in our opinion) with each succeeding harvest and inconsistent production.  Georges Duboeuf has done his job to get the region recognized.  Now let's move on to the really good stuff, The Real Beaujolais!  

The French Cellar plans to celebrate the region of Beaujolais that gets so little positive publicity and is given such a bad rap by its association with the instant production of Beaujolais Nouveau.  So on the same third Thursday of November, November 19th, through the weekend (Friday-Sunday), we will celebrate the Gamay Noir grape, with selections from such outstanding producers as Dominique Piron and the famous 10 crus, including villages such as Morgon, Fleurie, Moulin-au-Vent, Brouilly, and Chenas, by offering a complimentary tasting to the public. 

Good Beaujolais is a reasonably priced ($12 to $22) and is a refreshing antidote to all the richest, oakiest red wines in the world, as well as a great companion for all kinds of food, from traditional French to spicy Asian.  And roasted turkey!  Bonjour, Thanksgiving!  Fruit forward with zingy, bright, berry flavors rarely found outside of this region, it is a medium to light- bodied red wine.   Note that it can be served slightly chilled, and is a delightful red wine for Summer imbibing as well as sitting around the fireplace in the Winter.
