Drop
in between 5pm and 8pm this Tuesday and join us for a special tasting as we
sample wines from Spain, paired with Spanish-influenced cuisine, and
accompanied by the live music of DeAnna Wendolyn. Guynell of BevCo International will be here pouring
seven wines for you to taste while savoring small plates of paella, Manchego
and dry aged Gouda cheeses, quince paste, chorizo, churros with chocolate
sauce, and more. Could there be a better way to spend a Tuesday evening? Only
$12 per person ($10 for our wine club members). These are the wines we’ll
be tasting:
2008 Pares Balta Blanc de
Pacs, Penedes
Yellow lemon color with light green tints. On the nose intense aroma of pear
and apple. In the mouth it is fresh and with a good acidity. Resulting in a
soft wine, leaving an intense sensation of fruits and freshness on the
finish. A blend of Parellada, Xarello, and Macabeu.
2007 Vina Mayor Verdejo,
Rueda
87 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate There's nice cut to this white,
offering smoke, pear and herbal flavors, with a firm, fresh structure.
2007 Ardevol Anjoli, Priorat
A light ruby red wine with a nose of red fruits combined with exotic
spices. On the palate there is a rich texture with a hint of sweetness,
with fresh berries and notes of smoke. On the finish it stays fruity
while displaying a wide array of spices. Soft and elegant. A blend of
Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot
2007 El Castro de Valtuille
Mencia, Bierzo
90 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
90 Points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
The 2007 El Castro de Valtuille Joven is 100% Mencia from the DO of Bierzo.
Dark ruby-colored, it reveals an enticing perfume of baking spices,
eucalyptus/pine notes, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a
smooth-textured, sweet, forward wine with no hard edges. Drink this lengthy
effort over the next several years. It is a terrific introduction to the Mencia
grape and the Bierzo region.
2006 Pares Balta Mas Petit,
Penedes
87 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Medium intense cherry hue, with a predominating small of red fruits covering a
background of toasty notes and vanilla. On the palate it is soft and
friendly and with smooth tannins; flavors of red fruits, as cherries, combined
with a touch of vanilla. The wine will be more rounded and will develop
positively until reaching its maximum after the first five years in the
bottle. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha.
2006 Penascal
Tempranillo-Shiraz, Castilla y Leon
Dark cherry
red color, clean and bright with a fruity aroma. Smooth with good
structure; balanced, with a long and complex finish.
2000 Vina Mayor Gran
Reserva, Ribera del Duero
88 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2000 Gran Reserva is medium to dark ruby with some aged character in the
aromatics. There are notes of cedar, mineral, tobacco, and blackberry leading
to a supple-textured but lean (some would say elegant) wine with attractive
flavors and a silky finish. Drink through 2014.
