Godsend Vertical + 3-Course Braised Beef Dinner
This event has already occured!
November 5, 2009 (Thu)
6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
|
COST:
3-course Prix-Fixe Menu: $20, Wine Flight: $12
|
Please join us (21 and up only, please) this Thursday anytime after 6:00 for a unique opportunity to sample two vintages (2005 vs. 2006) of Godsend Cabernet Sauvignon. Godsend has almost achieved "cult" status and is definitely one of the most popular Cabs in our shop. We first tried it a couple of years ago when their first release 2003 came out and instantly fell in love with it. In fact, we love it so much that our humble little shop has taken at least ten percent of the entire production of every single vintage since the very beginning!
The flight of both wines (3 oz. pours) is a mere twelve bucks. We'll also have both vintages as well as other wines available by the glass or bottle to enjoy with dinner. Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested. Both vintages will be available for purchase for our usual ridiculously low price of $60 for the 2005 and $55 for the 2006. (The 2005 is $100 at the winery and the 2006 is $75.)
In addition to the regular twenty buck 3-course prix fixe bistro menu, we're also featuring a special dinner (also twenty bucks) that pairs with the wines. You'll get:
Shaved Fuyu Persimmons | Blue Cheese | Endive | Watercress | Honey Vinaigrette (to enjoy before the Cabs, or with a glass of one of our whites)
Red Wine Braised Beef Cheeks | Cauliflower Puree | Romanesco Cauliflower | Black Truffle (to enjoy with the two Cabs)
Chocolate Pots de Creme | Hazelnut Brittle | Spiced Maple Cream (to enjoy by itself ... or pair with one of our Ports)
Here's the wine line-up:
GODSEND VERTICLE (2 WINES) ~ $12 2005 Leal "Godsend" Cabernet Sauvignon (3 oz. pour) 2006 Leal "Godsend" Cabernet Sauvignon (3 oz. pour)
RSVP ~ (619) 295-3939 Reservations are recommended.
SO YOU DON'T LIKE THESE WINES, EH? In addition to the featured wine flight, we'll also have these and other wines available by the glass or bottle, as well as the usual pairing flight. We also have a full bar with lots of premium libations and attitude adjusters.
SO YOU DON'T LIKE THE DINNER SPECIAL, EH? In addition to the special mentioned above, we'll also have several other 3-course menus (including vegetarian options) available. The bistro menu changes every week but you can get an example of a typical one by visiting our website. The kitchen will be open until at least 8:30 and the bar will be open until at least 9:30, so come on down and make an evening of it!
LOCATION & PHONE Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upstairs terrace. Follow the black handrail up the stairs from the sidewalk to our front door. Our phone number is (619) 295-3939.
PARKING ~ FREE & PAID On-street parking is usually available within a 3-block radius. Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones after 6:00 and that meters are also free after 6:00. You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed! If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street. There's also a huge pay parking lot ($1 per hour) at the Mission Brewery Building two blocks south at the corner of Washington & Hancock. (You'll have to take San Diego Avenue to Noell to Hancock to get there due to the one-way streets.) So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!
WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES 2005 Leal "Godsend" Cabernet Sauvignon ~ $60 (San Benito) Complex nose of charcoal and faint smoke with perfume-like background aromas of sweet, briary, wild plum and blackberry plus even fainter hints of cola. Extremely smooth attach of not-overly-sweet, ripe, juicy black fruits and sweet tobacco balanced with a mellow, mocha/roasted coffee-like acidity in the juicy evolution and with mild, sweet-yet-slightly-spicy, smoky, oaky tannins in the long, fruity-yet-dry finish. Ready to drink now or cellar up to 5-6 years. 920 six-paks produced.
2006 Leal "Godsend" Cabernet Sauvignon ~ $55 (San Benito) Winemaker's Notes: The Leal Vineyards Godsend is made from select lots of the 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand selected, only the “crème de la crème” of Cabernet grapes were used in creating this wine. Each selected lot received extended barrel aging of eighteen months in French Oak and an additional six months in new medium toasted American Oak barrels. This additional aging gives the wine added complexity and depth: classic Cabernet aromas of rich currant, cassis and soft spiced oak. Mouth filling and rich, Godsend stands for an elegant, balanced, well structured wine with a long rounded finish. |
