Spain's New Wave Wines “Spain is the source of the best red wine values on earth Much of the credit must go to importers like José Pastor (Vinos & Gourmet) which are the next wave and their wines have begun to trickle into markets that in the past were dominated by large-production brands.” Here are some outstanding wines from José Pastor Selections. 1. Cava Brut Nature Reserva, German Gilabert NV Made in the Champagne method. Aged 16 months on the lees and bottled without dosage. Intense bouquet of citrus and white flowers. Bone dry, light, and very refreshing. 2. Sanlucar de Barrameda Manzanilla, Herrederos de Argueso NV 375ml One of the great Manzanillas. “Fascinating. Very tangy, from the first whiff to the intense finish, this manzanilla displays aromas and flavors of nuts and cooked apples allied to an almost creamy texture with buttery overtones.” 91/100 Wine Spectator 3. Rias Baixas Albariño “Leirana”, Forja del Salnes 2008 From 40-year-old vines with extremely low yields of just 2 kilos per vine. Just 500 cases made. 4. Ribeira Sacra Mencia “Vinas Viejas”, Guimaro 2007 |
