Wine OR Wine & Food
Lisa Granik MW (Master of Wine) and fine wine manager for Empire Merchants will help you demystify the language of Spain's classic wine region, Rioja. What exactly are the differences between a Joven, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva? Learn the characteristics of Rioja Blanca. Taste traditional and modern styles and learn how to differentiate them. Discover the terroir of Rioja, and how the mountain ranges, rivers and soils contribute to the wines that are Rioja. Tonight's offerings include wines from Lopez de Heredia, Sonorio de P. Pecina, Palacios Remondo and more. A selection of Spanish cheeses and cured meats will highlight the food friendliness of Spain's classic wines.
According to Eric Asimov in a
recent article, R. Lopez de Heredia "...is paradoxically a winery in
the vanguard, its viticulture and winemaking a shining, visionary
example for young, forward-thinking producers all over the world".
Marques de Murrieta and Hermanos Pecina are other favorites and
considered benchmarks for the region. The intricacies of when they make
their Reservas and Gran Reservas, what and why they choose to blend,
and other complexities are unveiled by our inimitable host.
