THE ANNUAL WHITE TRUFFLE DINNER 2009

We always like to champion exciting new wine importers, especially those who only deal with their particular niche area and whose enthusiasm abounds with new discoveries as well as re-discovering some old favourites. Such is Monforte Wines, run by Andrew Gillespie and Rebecca Nightingale, who specialize in the wines of Piemonte. And of course, this is where the white truffles are sourced. Having matched last year’s truffle dinner with some pretty impressive wines from around the world, we thought it appropriate to go back to Piemonte this time.  Andrew and Rebecca are bringing along Giuseppe Albertino, the winemaker of the renowned Rocche dei Manzoni Estate, situated in the heart of the Barolo appellation at Monforte d’Alba. Although the estate had been producing wine since the 1700’s, the modern winery was established by the late Valentino Migliorini, the owner of a Michelin starred restaurant in 1974. Considered to be in the vanguard of “modern” wine production in the area (he was one of the first to plant Chardonnay), his Dolcettos, Barolos and blends have attained a reputation which puts the estate among the very top in the area.   Their sparkling wines, which are made by the méthode Champenoise, are a relatively new adventure for the estate – the Brut Zero  is made with 100% Chardonnay grapes from the estate, whilst the Brut Zero Rosé, is 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay. “Remember” 2003, (80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon), with the foie gras, is a late-harvest wine made only in the years when the grapes are affected by botrytis cinerea. We will also have the chance to show the 2001 vintage with the dessert. Chardonnay L’Angelica, is a single vineyard wine matured en barrique for up to 15 months before bottling and not released for sale for another year. The star of the show is undoubtedly the Barolo Riserva Vigna Madonna Assunta La Villa, which after 4 years en barrique, spends another year in big casks and then 5 years in bottle before release. Thus the 1999 that you will be drinking was only released  for sale this year so you will be among the first to drink it! Wines will also be available for purchase on the night, not only from Rocche dei Manzoni, but also from other boutique estates imported by Monforte Wines.   -----------------------------------------------------------------------------   BOOKING FORM   Please reserve me.......places for the 2009 White Truffle dinner on Saturday November 28th at £150.00 per person   TOTAL AMOUNT DUE                                                                              £   Cheque enclosed for                                                                                        £                                                                                                                         ============== (Please make cheques payable to “Bacchus & Comus Ltd”   Name (Please print)..................................................……..  Telephone No. ………………….   E-mail address…………………………………………………………
