Allagash Brewing Company of Portland, Maine, sold its first batch of beer in the summer of 1995. It was the award-winning Allagash White, modeled after the traditional "White" or Wit beers of Belgium. With the success of the first brand (it developed a strong cult following in the Portland area), founder/brewer Rob Tod realized that the beer-drinking public was seeking new styles of beer –– particularly the ever-creative Belgian styles.
Now, almost 15 years later, Allagash is producing some of the finest Belgian-style and experimental ales this side of the Atlantic. What began as New England’s original Belgian-influenced craft brewery has grown into one of the industry’s most distinguished and well-respected brands.
Join us in this special class devoted entirely to the almighty Allagash, which provides us the rare opportunity to taste the many distinct beer styles of a single microbrewery –– which happens to be one of this country’s best. We will sample the best of its portfolio, from the flagship White beer,to the ginger-spiced Fluxus, to the Jim Beam barrel-aged Curieux, to the unique Victor and Victoria ales, made with Chancellor and Chardonnay grapes, respectively, to a surprise or two.
Subject to availability, a special guest from Allagash will be on hand to discuss the beer and the brewery.
