Wine OR Wine & Food

Want to learn more about Burgundy and Bordeaux?  Confused by the labels on German wines?  Been to Italy, but can’t seem to locate the wines you fell in love with in Venice or Rome?  Wish you knew more about the wine regions in California?  This practical and entertaining course will boost your confidence when it comes to selecting wines, whether at a restaurant or to add to your own wine “cellar.”

The second level course offered by The Wine Society, the 6 week Oenophile Workshop is designed for those who are looking to expand their knowledge of wine and wine regions.  Building on the foundation of the Connoisseur Workshop, this course will review the University of California at Davis system for evaluating wine and build on the introductory curriculum with more in-depth information on the key wine regions around the globe.  Each class combines a lecture section with advanced tastings of wines.  While open to all levels of wine enthusiasts, the educated wine lover will benefit most from the Oenophile course.

The Oenophile Workshop is taught by the owner of the Wine Society, Charles “Charlie” Saunders.  Charlie has been teaching wine courses for over 20 years, first at Middlesex College, University of Massachusetts and now exclusively through the Wine Society.  Mr. Saunders is a member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers de la Chantepleure de Vouvray and Confrerie Entonneurs Rabelaisiens de Chinon.  Several groups of former students have accompanied Charlie to France to be knighted in these august societies.  Mr. Saunders founded the New England Wine Company Ltd in 1991.  Charlie was the regional director for Les Amis du Vin until he founded Les Chevaliers du Grand Vin in 1995.
