Wine OR Wine & Food

The winery building is located at the site of the teacher's carriage house featured on their labels. Lyman J. Burrell settled on this site in 1853 with his family, at one time owning 3500 acres of land. He and his son planted the first grapes in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1854. By 1860 Lyman was tending a small vineyard, as was his neighbor, "Mountain Charley" McKiernan. Lyman and his family donated an acre of land to the community to build a school in the late 1860's or early 1870's. The existing school building was rebuilt and dedicated on July Fourth, 1890. Burrell School served the mountain community until 1950.
