The Wines of Italy
These courses are for those who wish an in-depth study of a specific country (a different country is offered every semester). The Basics course or an equivalent is suggested as a prerequisite).
CLASS 1: Italy's vinous background, history, wine laws & nomenclature plus an introduction to its most popular wines.
CLASS 2: This session deals with the fresh & easy-drinking wines from Friuli, Trentino, Veneto and Lombardia, The nomenclature here is largely varietal and will be easily recognizable.
CLASS 3: We'll cover central & southern Italy's table wines: this part of Italy is exploding with a great blend of innovation and tradition. We will also the country's classic dry sparklers.
CLASS 4: Toscana & Umbria - the great Sangiovese-based reds of Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano & Torgiano plus, of course, a review of "Super Tuscan" evolution.
CLASS 5: Piemonte - Barolo, Barbaresco, Gattinara, the Barberas and other extraordinary red wines; we'll also take a side trip to Valtellina in Lombardia.
This course will take place at Boardman's (455 N Cityfront Plaza in the NBC Tower) starting at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 4th through Wednesday, December 8th (skipping Nov. 11th). Sessions last approximately 90 minutes. There is street and discounted lot parking.
