Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

This Intermediate course takes up where #1 left off, The Basics having been covered. It will focus on the nearly 3 dozen grape varieties which are distinct enough to produce interesting wines.

CLASS 1: "Crisp & Light Whites"- Sauvignon blanc, Sémillon, Melon, Cortese, Grüner Veltliner and Viura. Great aperitif wines or wines to go with lighter meals / first courses.
CLASS 2: "Perfumed & Gutsy Reds"- Pinot noir & Gamay plus Syrah, Petite Sirah, Nebbiolo, Grenache & Barbera. Both ends of the spectrum: lighter, more summertime reds versus definite winter-fare mates.
CLASS 3: "Fruity/Floral Whites"- White Riesling, Chenin blanc, Muscat, Gewürztraminer and others. Classic anytime wines, some with a trace of sweetness
CLASS 4: "Clarety Reds - Cabernet (Sauvignon & franc), Merlot, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Malbec and Tempranillo. The Cabs & Merlot are perfect with steaks with the rest pairing well with grilled food or Mediterranean dishes.
CLASS 5: "Richer & Woody Whites" - Chardonnay, Pinots blanc & gris, Aligoté, Viognier, Marsanne & Roussanne. Classic dry whites: some oaky some not, but all full of flavor.

This course will take place at IN FINE SPIRITS (5420 N Clark St). It will begin Thursday, 5th at 6:30 PM ending Thursday, December 17th (skipping Nov. 12th and 26th). Sessions last approximately 90 minutes. There is street and lot parking. It is served by the 22 Clark and 50 Damen/Ashland bus routes. The Berwyn stop on the Red Line is a few blocks east..
Students who sign up for this course will receive a free copy of The Vineyard Handbook: Appellations, Maps and Statistics (see the "Great New Book" page on the site)
