THE PLEASURES OF PINOT NOIR

with David LeClaire of Wine Events & Promotions

Pinot Noir is not called the heartbreak grape without good reason. If this grape were a person, it might be an elegant diva, temperamental but with a personality that draws people to her in a way that is the envy of others. This is a lady who prefers things to be exactly her way! She likes warm days and cool evenings, pesky bugs and birds drive her to distraction, and her unpredictable disposition can make for a difficult “gathering” in the fall. But when all of her demands have been met she can drive her ardent admirers to an outpouring of nearly awe-like praise! What draws people to her? In her youth she may be fresh and light and bring to mind a harvest of strawberries and cherries. As she grows a bit older her appeal could be the silky, smoky, earthy, and complex part of her personality. Food-friendly and typically low in alcohol, Pinot Noir may be one of the most versatile wines to have on-hand. This event is a great chance to try some of the varied styles being produced in Washington, Oregon and California, and to see what this “Diva” has to offer.

What draws you to her?

To help us discover all we can about complicated and mysterious Pinot Noir, certified sommelier and wine educator David LeClaire will be joining us to share his knowledge and insights. This is the fifth year for our annual tasting event, and David has been there for us at each of these programs. Through his company, Wine Events & Promotions, David customizes wine programs for consumers and for businesses, both large and small. Companies such as Starbucks and Nintendo have turned to David for his expertise in creating wine events. He is also involved in bringing wine industry groups like ZAP to Seattle, as well as taking large tasting events to various cities throughout the U.S.  David’s work with charitable organizations has been extensive, and his efforts with fundraisers for causes such as Gilda’s Club, Susan G. Koman, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and FareStart have been invaluable in assisting these groups in their efforts.

We thank him for joining us for The Pleasures of Pinot Noir!

This annual event would not be possible without all that Salty’s on Alki does for us! They provide the perfect gathering space, the most amazing view in the city of Seattle, and a dinner that never fails to impress us more and more each year. Their list of “Best Of” awards (including for the view, of course!) have become too extensive to list, and a meal at Salty’s always proves to their guests the reasons why they receive such recognition. Fantastic food and wine list, wonderful service, a not-to-be-missed Sunday Brunch, Seafood Festivals, dedication to charitable causes, and event spaces with views of Seattle and the Puget Sound - all are just a part of what makes Salty’s so special. This is a restaurant that is truly part of the community.
