Bankers
by profession, Jim and Mary Dierberg are no newcomers to wine. They've owned
one of America's oldest wineries, Hermannhof, since 1974. It's located in their
home state of Missouri, where Jim was raised in a farming tradition. Between
2004 & 1996 they purchased over 500 acres between Santa Maria, Santa Ynez
and Santa Barbara. They hired two of the most widley respected winemakers in
California to consult on the wines and wineries: David Ramey and Paul
Hobbs. The rest is just great wine from two different wineries!
Star Lane Winery is located at the far eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, is
both the warmest and the highest elevation vineyard in the appellation. Backing
up to the lower slopes of the San Rafael Mountains, which loom high above the
ranch, Star Lane unfolds itself in its own pristine valley. Traveling 22
degrees North by North East the Star Lane vineyard blocks climb from the canyon
floor to the bench lands above and, ultimately to the highest mountain tops
sites-each area contributing a unique element to the resulting wines.
Dierberg Estate's Vineyards lie very close to the Pacific Ocean in California's
Central Coast wine region. The vineyards provide both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
for Dierberg Estate wines. In 1997, Mary and Jim Dierberg planted the first
vineyard near the town of Santa Maria. Seven years later, they planted a second
vineyard in what is known as Drum Canyon, south of Santa Maria, in the Santa
Rita Hills. Our coastal environment provides a combination of sunny days,
maritime breezes and well drained soils, perfectly suited to cool climate
viticulture. Please explore our website for more details.
Wines to be tasted: Three Saints Chardonnay, Three Saints Pinot Noir, Starlane
Sauvignon Blanc, Starlane Cabernet Sauvignon, Dierberg Chardonnay &
Dierberg Pinot Noir
