The Cult Super Tuscans of Le Macchiole

Le Macchiole’s Messorio is Italy’s answer to Petrus, and a constant challenger to Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia’s Masseto as Italy’s finest expression of Merlot.  IWM invites you to meet the winemaker and be among the first in the country to taste this rare Super Tuscan from the already historic 2006 vintage (just 50 cases will arrive into the US providing you a truly unique opportunity). Also headlining  is the cult-like Scrio, a limited production Syrah that delivers Hermitage-like qualities with a Tuscan twist, and the iconic Paleo Rosso, the flagship wine that challenged Bordeaux’s First Growth.  If you follow IWM, or in this case watch the points from the Wine Advocate, you are already aware that Messorio is a candidate for Tuscan Wine of the Year.  This is a rare opportunity to taste the neighboring wines of Ornellaia and Sassicaia with the proprietor Cinzia Merli (a recent recipient of Winemaker of the Year in Italy).  The Le Macchiole estate is located just down the road from Tenuta dell’Ornellaia in the coastal village of Bolgheri, sharing the same soils that gave birth to the Super Tuscan pioneers.  And like Sassicaia and Masseto, the wines from the Le Macchiole estate are responsible for bringing world class Italian winemaking to the global stage.

This rare winemaker event will include more than nine wines from the estate; Messorio (2006, 2000), Scrio (2006, 2004), Paleo Rosso (2006, 2000, 1997), Bolgheri Rosso (2007), Paleo Bianco (2007). The wines will be paired with a five-course menu of regional specialties.
