Stop by this Saturday afternoon between 3 and 6pm and taste 7 (yes, seven!) big zinfandels – no wimpy white zins here. We’ll be pouring five from California and one from Australia and finishing with an awesome California port:
2004 Longview “The
Mob” Single Vineyard Zinfandel, Adelaide Hills, Australia
The nose is all licorice and dried plum cake, spices and a little pepper. The
palate is easygoing with approachable fruit characters, soft tannins and
understated oak influence, fermented in small open tanks, then aged 15 months
in older American oak.
2007 Joel Gott Zinfandel, California
Dry farmed old vines produce intensity and structure while packing it is full
of flavors like licorice, plums and Bing cherries.
2006 St. Francis Old Vines Zinfandel, Sonoma County,
California
This distinct 'old world style' Zinfandel displays deep aromas of ripe black
cherries and boysenberries laced with licorice, shadowed by spicy toasted oak
notes that carry into a long luscious finish.
2007 Four Vines Old Vine Cuvee Zinfandel, California
Selected from vineyards in Mendocino, Amador, Sonoma, Paso Robles and Lodi.
On the nose the wine has layers of berry fruit and anise aromas with hints of
spice. On the palate, blackberry and spicy plum fruit with a rich mouth feel
trailing to a velvety toasted oak finish. Enjoy with a friend!
2007 Four Vines ‘The Sophisticate’ Zinfandel, Sonoma County,
California
Kissed with a touch of Petite Sirah and aged in small French and American oak
barrels for 14 months. This wine has a sexy nose with velvet vanilla oak
tones, followed by rich, spicy berry fruit and a hint of cedar. Big flavors,
yet refined and stylish. The James Bond of Zinfandel - he will seduce you.
2006 Earthquake Zinfandel, Lodi, California
Juicer
plum, spicier clove and fuller in body than ever before! Your taste
buds will be in upheaval over the suede-like tannins churning together with
vanilla and toasted raspberry cobbler. The loooong, smooth finish will
leave you in a state of aftershock!
2006 Eos Zinfandel Port, Paso Robles, California
Intense
aromas of prunes, molasses, roasted walnuts and maple syrup fill the
nose. The nutty characters glide across the palate with essence of plums and
espresso while the spiciness of dry earth, cedar, and cinnamon linger on the
palate for an extended finish. 79.5% Zinfandel, 20.5% Petite Sirah
